WPC doors offer properties such as water resistance, moisture resistance, and immunity to rot, mold, and insect damage, as well as dimensional stability. Beyond standard interior use, they are suitable for environments characterized by significant temperature fluctuations, high humidity, or poor ventilation-such as damp bathrooms and storage rooms requiring protection against rot, mold, and pests.
Utilizing wood-plastic composites as a base material, manufacturers have developed a diverse product line that includes interior doors, decorative moldings and panels, cabinetry panels, windowsills, flooring, and railings. The domestic market has achieved considerable scale and continues to grow. By 2005, WPC-based outdoor decking and fencing accounted for 15% of the residential market in North America, with forecasts predicting continued growth leading up to 2010. In 2005, sales of WPC outdoor decking and related construction products in North America reached $495 million. Separate projections indicated that the global WPC market could exceed $1.4 billion by 2007. Some companies have introduced customized products-such as water- and moisture-resistant WPC doors-specifically designed for the climate conditions of the Middle East. WPC material initiatives have previously been included in the Ministry of Science and Technology's "863" and "948" programs.
